Chapter 1. Overcoming Anxiety and Depression

 There are many contributing factors to the states of anxiety and depression. One of the major factors is that desire has been thwarted and reality seems skewed beyond the acceptable  boundaries of a fulfilled existence. This is the gap between what you want and what you have.

III. Self-Love

Until recently Self-love was a topic that had mainly been considered a taboo, within most religious and social doctrines. It has been sold to us as being selfish and narcissistic, when actually it is the only remedy for low self-esteem. The lack of Self-love is the hinge-pin holding back the majority of all healthy mental and emotional stability in a world where we were taught to negate ourselves and think poorly of who we are to produce a false humility.

Maturity

Maturity is something that is sadly lacking in the lives of those who struggle to get on with others. A healthy Self-love is a result of attaining this well needed maturity, an essential ingredient that enhances our relationships. It can take many years to realise the only real love in this world is the love you are able to give yourself. Then in turn you are able to interpret the real gestures of love from the outside world that are not trades or manipulations. When one comes from a mature perspective they develop a profound contentment and gratitude through such methods as, meditation, contemplation and cogitation.

Simply put, it is when one truly takes responsibility for their own happiness and decides that they are going to treat themselves, as they would like others to treat them, as well as treating others as they would like to be treated; that some healthy levels of Self-love are achieved. In too many cases because of a lack of Self-love, we treat others like we treat ourselves. This doesn’t produce harmony and in many conflicts that is exactly what is going on.

We can only love others to the degree that we love ourselves and in most instances we do not have the right frame of reference to know what healthy Self-love looks like. We have taken as role models those around us who are struggling at best just to get through the day fighting back the waves of societal pressures and indoctrination. This is said without malice and comes from the observation of many clients with whom I have worked.

One of the major reasons why so many people are acting in a way counterproductive to their health, wealth and happiness, is because they are in a state of being overwhelmed. When people are overwhelmed they do not function properly and they do stuff that is considered insane and harmful to themselves and others. They become out of balance, disorientated and have no understanding on how to get back on track to create the life that will bring them fulfilment and happiness. I have been teaching “The Life Balance and Awareness Model” for over twenty years and it has brought peace and harmony to many lives including my own.

Herein, lies THE KEYS TO HAPPINESS AND SELF-LOVE.

I. Overcoming Anxiety and Depression

There are many contributing factors to the states of anxiety and depression. One of the major factors is that desire has been thwarted and reality seems skewed beyond the acceptable boundaries of a fulfilled existence. This is the gap between what you want and what you have.

There are three conditions that can affect the restoration of a healthy equilibrium; they are as follows: Open, Closed & Arrested

The conditions of being:
1. Open condition: means teachable, one who considers possibility and has the power to rise above paradox to see the many perspectives, world‐views and the possible solutions to conflicts.

2. Closed condition: means not teachable, one who thinks they know everything, doesn’t want to know anything different and unconsciously embraces ignorance. He or she is also averse to being taught or helped to see anything other than their own perspective.

3. Arrested condition: Is something else. It is when either condition is possible, and a good way to describe the arrested condition is like when you are watching a movie and then someone has pressed the pause button. Many people are stuck in this mode, and it is not until you press that button again, that you are able to find out whether or not they are closed or open. Sometimes the person responds and becomes open and sometimes they don’t, which is somewhat like having the pause button stuck in that frozen position. In my experience, if you need to use a crowbar to undo the pause button to release someone from an arrested condition to an open condition, it then becomes best to walk away and help those who want to be helped, and who will help themselves. This result will prove to be a closed condition, rather than arrested condition, which requires too high a skill level of facilitation to create any change, within a reasonable time frame.
